Mnet Needs You.by You can helpMnet currently lacks high-uptime nodes that provide the vital services that the network depends on. Can you help us out by running one or more of these services? Preferably 24x7. Meta Tracker server: If your server is up almost all of the time, and is expected to remain up for the forseeable future, then please run a MetaTracker. MetaTrackers are the "coordination" servers which allow Mnet nodes to find other Mnet nodes. MetaTracking in v0.6.2 is fully decentralized, so anybody can run a MetaTracker. To run a MetaTracker requires some small technical expertise -- i.e. you have to compile the source code yourself. If you know how to run a MetaTracker, you can host a "private Mnet network" to which only your friends are invited. See How To Run A MetaTracker Relay server: If you have DSL or any other type of broadband, consider running this. It helps everyone behind a firewall to use Mnet. A lot of these are needed. Run this even if you're online just for a few hours each day. No technical expertise is needed -- just click the "run relay server" button in the GUI. Block server: Space allocated for Mnet to use to store file-blocks so that others can get files from the network. Lots of these are needed too. Run one of these if your computer is online about 12h or more per day and have 1000 MB or more disk space to lend to Mnet. No technical expertise is needed -- just click the "run block server" button in the GUI. (Also you might want to set the "max disk space to contribute" setting.) Content tracker: The "search engine" for Mnet. Running this helps users to find files on the network. Not so many of these are needed. Run one if you are online "always". You might notice the CPU usage if you run this service, depending on how popular your Content Tracker is. No technical expertise is needed -- just click the "run content tracker" button in the GUI. How to configure your node. To change your node to run these servers, do this: With the GUI: Click "Edit" -> "Preferences". Click on the "Yes" option on the servers that you want to run. Fill in 1000MB or more in the "Maximum disk space dedicated to Mnet". Click on Exit and restart your node. With the HTML-interface. Point your browser to http://127.0.0.1:4004. Click on "Preferences". Click on the "Yes" option on the servers you want to run. Fill in 1000MB or more in the "Maximum disk space dedicated to Mnet". Click on "Exit" and restart your node. |
