During this week, communities across North America will celebrate and recognize the contributions of professional economic development organizations to creating more vibrant and economically viable communities. JEDI is proud that its two municipal members, Wetaskiwin County and the Town of Millet have amplified the region’s economic development efforts by participating in the 2022 Community Challenge and that their councils are officially proclaiming May 9-13 Economic Development Week.

“With the economic recovery from COVID being a top priority in the JEDI region, it is important to encourage residents and businesses, large and small, to recognize May 9-13, 2022 as ‘Economic Development Week’ in the JEDI region. . Over the past year, the area has welcomed new industrial ventures, including SATO Canada at the Millet Industrial Park and Familia Brewing at the Village of Pigeon Lake.

SATO specializes in training operators of vacuum trucks, tank trucks and crawler hoes. Their mission is to develop a new group of operators better trained and equipped to embrace a long-term career in the oil and gas industry. In addition, SATO offers a unique course offering a basic orientation on the drill site as well as the courses required to be certified on site, such as H2S and First Aid.

Familia Brewing is a seasonally inspired craft brewery by the lake. They make a variety of beers, from easy-drinking favorites to seasonal, small-batch experiments. If you’re in the Pigeon Lake area, be sure to stop by their bar for a unique craft beer experience!

JEDI, in cooperation with the Central Alberta Economic Partnership (CAEP), recently applied for the JEDI region to participate in the Alberta Advantage immigration program.

JEDI is pleased to announce that its municipal members, Wetaskiwin County and the Town of Millet are among the first communities in Alberta to be named Rural Communities Participating in the Rural Entrepreneur Stream and believes this program will make a significant difference to promote economic development in our Region.

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream allows Alberta to nominate qualified and skilled entrepreneurs who want to start a new business or buy an existing business in a rural Alberta community. Candidates interested in the JEDI region will connect directly with JEDI to discuss their business proposal and schedule an exploratory visit.

JEDI is grateful for CAEP’s assistance in pursuing this opportunity and will continue to work with CAEP and our municipal partners to determine the best exploratory visit process for our region. Entrepreneurs play a key role in Alberta’s economy and JEDI is excited about the potential to attract qualified entrepreneurs to our region.
