The San Antonio Economic Development Foundation has changed its name to better represent the region it is helping to develop.

Now known as Greater: SATX, Economic Development felt that the “SA” in SAEDF under-represented the region it covers, going beyond city limits to reach the larger Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), including Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson counties.

Second, although the word is in the original name created in 1974, the organization does not see itself as a “foundation” that provides funds to individuals or organizations, according to a document announcing the name change.

“Through the expansion of our regional partnerships within the eight counties of the MSA and our strategic approach to economic development focused on talent and industry, ‘SAEDF’ has been found to be limited and unclear,” said Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, President and Chief Executive Officer.

The group now feels bigger: SATX better represents the scope and mission of the organization to create regional partnerships that foster “mega-regional” growth.

The Economic Development Group helps attract businesses to the San Antonio area. Most recently, the organization was instrumental in the sale of San Antonio to Pabst Brewing Company, which moved its headquarters here in October 2020.
